Movie Review - End Of Watch

End Of Watch. Open Road Films. Staring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, America Ferrera, Anna Kendrick and Everton Lawrence. Written and Directed by David Ayer. Produced by David Ayer, Matt Jackson and John Lesher.

L-R: Mike (Pena) & Brian (Gyllenhaal)
David Ayer wrote “Training Day” that won a second Oscar® for Denzel Washington and in the same vein he brings us “End Of Watch,” a realistic, true life cop drama that he wrote, directed and produced.

Ayer lets his viewers see and feel what its like to live, love and work wearing an LAPD badge. Officers Brian Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Mike Zavala (Pena) are shown at home with their families, at the station with their colleagues and we ride with them on patrol. That’s all hunkie-dory until they bump heads with a powerful Mexican Drug and human trafficking cartel. Then it becomes a fasten-your-seat-belt, high stakes ride. This one is a sure winner!

****Excellent! (Ride In Front 1st Class)

Movie Review - Sleepwalk With Me

Movie Review - Sleepwalk With Me

Sleepwalk With Me. IFC Films. Starring Mike Birbiglia, Lauren Ambrose, James Rebhorn and Carol Kane. Writer & Director, Mike Birbiglia.  Co-Directed by Seth Barrish. Produced by Ira Glass.

Mike Birbiglia
This is a comedy but it is based on the true story of comedian Mike Birbiglia who is a habitual sleep walker in real life. Sleep walking is a brain dysfunction where the mind cannot distinguish between things that go on in a dream and real life. So while they are asleep, they physically get up and act out what they are dreaming about like it is real. Some parts are funny but
others are serious like the time Birbiglia was dreaming that he was on a crashing spaceship and the only way out was to jump through a window in the spaceship. Unfortunately, the dream was so real that he actually got up and jumped out of a second story hotel window while still sleep and had to be hospitalized. This is one of those small, odd type of movies that only a select few can appreciate.

Movie Review - The Oogieloves

Movie Review - The Oogieloves

The Oogieloves in The Big Balloon Adventure. Kenn Viselman Presents. Starring Toni Braxton, Cloris Leachman, Christopher Lloyd, Chazz Palminteri, Cary Elwes and Jaime Pressly. Directed by Matthew Diamond. Written by Scott Stabile. The Oogieloves, G created by Kenn Viselman. Produced by Kenn Viselman and Gayle Dickie.

Toni Braxton and Goobie
The three Oogieloves, Goobie, Zoozie and Toofie, had planned a surprise birthday party for their friend Schluufy the pillow. They were going to give him five magic balloons but their friend who was delivering the balloons to them accidentally let them go and fly into the sky when his bike crashed.

The Oogieloves then got on their bikes to find the balloons and the adventure begins.

The entire idea for this flick which was targeted to children ages 3 to 7 had the right intentions but totally missed the mark. They tried to re-create the 1950's in look and style. The soda shop scene is a prime example because those type of shops like the drive-in burger places with the roller skating waitresses don't exist any more and children today can't relate. The children are asked to get up and dance in certain spots in the film. The Oogieloves are ugly and floppy looking, slow and not very entertaining. The children today are computer savvy and need a fast pace with action to keep their attention.

This may be why this project was a complete flop at the box office with only a measly $443,901 take with 2,160 screens its opening weekend which is a new low record. This puts Oogieloves at the rank bottom of the barrel with "Ishtar" as the worst film in history. This is a shew-in for a Razzie Award!

Movie Review - The Apparition

The Apparition. Warner Bros. Pictures in association with Dark Castle Entertainment. Starring Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, Tom Felton, Julianna Guill, Luke Pasqualino, Rick Gomez and Anna Clarke. Written and Directed by Todd Lincoln. Produced by Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman.

Kelly (Ashley Greene) and Stan (Sebastian Stan)
Kelly (Greene) and her boyfriend Ben (Stan) move-in together in a new suburban house. Soon after settling in, they come to realize that there is a presence in the house that followed Ben home after he had participated in a university Para-psychology experiment that went wrong.

Yes there are the heart pounding moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat with sweaty palms and forehead. I personally don't like the fact That Kelly has to suffer for the sins of her boyfriend Stan. Instead of getting after her Mr. Boogieman, just scare the hell out of her man Stan who conjured you up in the first place. If you are the nightmare after type, you might want to skip this one but if you like to rock and sock it with "boog" (i.e., the boogie man); this might be your cup of tea!
