Red Tails. 20th Century Fox
Pictures and Partnership Pictures. Starring Terrence
Howard, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Marcus T. Paulk,
Ne-Yo and Tristan Wilds. Directed by Anthony Hemingway. Screenplay by Aaron
McGruder. Story by John Ridllley based in part on John
Holways book “Red Tails Black .Wings.
Produced by Charles Floyd Johnson and Rick McCallum. Executive Producer George
Lucas.
It is about time that the first Black fighter pilots to engage
in combat during WWII had their day on the big screen. Hollywood didn’t want to
make this movie but George Lucas did. The film centers on the famed 332nd
Fighter Group that trained at the Tuskegee Institute and were
stationed at the segregated, all Black Ramitelli, Italy airbase where they
established and broke many air combat records. They flew with valor and
distinction despite the racist dumb stuff they had to put up with from their
own side. This film deserve the support from not only Blacks but from all
Americans because it weren’t for these chocolate pilots, there may have been a
different outcome to WWII and one the U.S. wouldn’t have liked.
